Time and when?

Hello I am a beginner. I am wondering if I could start fingerstyle guitar right after learning all the chords. I have long experience in playing piano, so I can read the notes. How long does it take to master fingerstyle guitar, in other words playing it in excellent level such as able to play "freight train" or "Ebon coast". Thank you very much.

Learn and Master Guitar
by: Anonymous

Good question. The short answer is "I don't know".

Most players, even very accomplished ones, still feel that there is more to learn.

Even Joe Pass said in an interview that he hadn't mastered the guitar.

It's a good idea to begin working on the right hand as soon as you can.

The learning the chords aspect is ongoing. One of the most important things to learn, in my opinion, is chord theory.

Learning triads and intervals is also a good idea.
This allows you to learn a few shapes that can be moved around the fingerboard.

Knowing how to read music is a big plus for you. Now you just have to learn where those notes are on the fingerboard.

A classical guitar method, like Frederick Noad's Solo Guitar Playing.

They key to learning guitar is like anything else. You have to be so interested in it that you regularly do it (practice).

Hope this helps.
